Regular Fieldstaff visitors know that this time of the year we do lots of fundraising for the Royal British Legion. Our current window displays are an exhibition, where nothing is for sale, as they are designed to educate and evoke remembrance of times of conflict and those involved. We pick a different subject each year, however this year we’ve decided to cover many aspects ofthe home front.
If you look at our windows between now and the mid November, you’ll see that they are festooned with flags, poppies, uniform, posters and even two aircraft! These items have all been very kindly loaned to us. As usual at this time of year we will be having a visit from local school children, during which time we’ll explain what the items in the window are and the significance of the Remembrance period; with the aim of helping younger generations to understand the consequences of war. These are a few pictures of our current window display. If you get the chance do come and see it. If you come into the shop you'll be likely to hear rousing wartime songs. If you're unlucky when you come you might even hear the Fieldstaff Choir singing along!!
We love the fact that many people in the local community take an interest in our windows and help us put them together. This year we’d like to especially thank Nick Baines and Ivor Hodge for the generous loan of flags and flying bombs.
As every year, we are raising money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, and have a splendid selection of their poppy products for sale in the shop. From enamel pins and bracelets, to traditional satin poppies and larger ones for cars and vans. Come and get them!
